The common name for this butterfly is the White Peacock. It is the second in the ‘Metamorphosis’ series. This time it wasn’t the canvas that was reclaimed; it was the frame. My Grandma Groener gave me a pair of lovely oak frames, which I think she bought at an estate sale. When I finally fished them out of the corner from behind my drawing table, I saw that they needed some help. I sanded them lightly, and then rubbed them with a bit of beeswax wood finisher. They took on a warm, rosy color. I was pleased with that, but a little concerned at the odd-sized opening; each frame had space for a 10” x 14” canvas. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to build one, since I don’t like building canvases. Usually you find 11” x 14” canvases, not 10” x 14”. I headed over to Artmart to see what I could find. Happily, I discovered a 10” x 14” canvas board, which turned out to be much cheaper than buying stretched canvas. I got two, still not sure what I would paint.
